Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has sent a message of support to Australian flood victims and is offering free cooking sessions to help residents feed their family over Easter. In a selfie video posted to social media, UK-based Oliver said he’d been moved by the scenes of devastation in Australia and his Queensland-based Jamie’s Ministry of Food group would provide its services to people with no safe space to prepare meals. “Big love to everyone affected by the floods,” Oliver says in the video. “There’s a lot of stuff going on in the world, and it’s not just in those places. There’s things going on everywhere. So I really feel for you at the moment.” IN OTHER NEWS: Oliver said residents in Ipswich, where hundreds of homes were affected by recent flooding, would be able to join free cooking sessions in the city between April 8 and 14 to prepare “delicious, nutritious meals” to feed a family of four during the Easter break. “Everything will be done,” he said. “All the equipment, all the food, all the takeaway stuff, all the crockery. Everything’s done for you guys.” The week-long flood relief program is being funded by Health and Wellbeing Queensland, the state government’s health promotion agency. Those who want to register for the cooking classes or register on behalf of a flood victim can do so on the Humantix website.
